In August I had the privilege of documenting a brand new life coming into this world.  This is something I've always wanted to do, but being a mum of 3 little ones, I just don't have the time (You need to be on call no matter what the time of day for a birth)
In August, for a small window of time, things were aligned perfectly for me to attend a birth.  We have an au-pair at home, and Hubby over the weekends.

The call came on a glorious Auckland Sunday.  I little bit nippy with occasional showers.  I very excitedly headed to the maternity ward of Auckland City Hospital.  The last time I walked those halls was while in labour with my now 3 year old sweet girl.  I was greeted at the door by a familiar face - the same midwife who delivered my princess(Penny).  We loved Penny so much that we really missed her after the anti-natal visits stopped.  Daniel and I use to joke that we should maybe have another baby, just so we could see our beloved midwife Penny.

This was a massive bonus to such an amazing day!

The beautiful Tarah was already in well established labour.  She had amazing support in the room with her, in the form of her very doting husband, her mother, and her mother in law.  An aspect of the session that I did not expect - Being in that moment, seeing true, raw love in action, and being able to capture it forever - with the click of a shutter.

Tarah was delivering her 4th little boy. She delivered without an epidural, I am still in awe of her incredible strength.

Her baby had to be turned by the midwife as he was coming down the birth canal, Tarah bit down on the gas, and braved it out.  She is incredible! There was a time that she was really struggling, and it was so beautiful to see how everyone immediately surrounded her, and spoke words of encouragement. Her mom sat down after that, silently saying a prayer with tears rolling down her cheeks. The love in that room was so strong, you could not help but feel emotional.

Little baby C was born, and he was perfect!  Pure Joy filled the room, and everyone rejoiced at the gift of new life.

Baby C had a short umbilical cord, so he was only placed on his mum after his proud dad cut his cord. She held him, and she cried, and she kissed him and soaked him in.

Tarah and Jeremy, thank you for allowing me to capture this special moment in your lives.  Words can't describe how thankful I am as a photographer to be able to document a miracle!

You are amazing parents, and I look forward to seeing Baby C grow up and flourish, surrounded by the incredible love your whole family has for each other.

Below is the slideshow of Baby C's birth, and first few hours of his life.

Over the weekend I got to meed this adorable little girl, I went over to their beautiful house for a chat... Oh, and I got a couple of shots in between as well.  She was adorable, and she loved talking, especially with her daddy.  She had nothing but smiles and adoration when she looked at her mom. Didn't cry even once during our session.

Vin and Edward, thank you so much for your hospitality, I really enjoyed our session.  I hope you love the images as much as I do!

It has been a big week in our house, our 'baby' girl turned 3, and she started kindy. She very proudly came into my room this morning, backpack on - including her water bottle, ready to go. Such a cute little thing! I remember when my son started kindy, I cried all the way to kindy and all the way back.  When you get to your 3rd child, it's part of the routine.  Don't get me wrong, it's still a big deal, and it does tug at my heart a bit, I'm just not so emotional. Of course, I was there, camera in hand capturing her first day.  She is a very confident little girl, and I am so proud of her.  (I guess you have to be confident with two older brothers)

I'd love to hear from other mothers, what was your experience leaving your little ones at kindergarten?

Have a wonderful week everyone, and a relaxing weekend!

What a gorgeous day in Auckland today! It's not too cold, the Jasmine is blooming, and we're slowly moving into spring.

In between editing orders I have been working hard at building my dream website (still a work in progress), also, I've been in contact with an awesome guest blogger who is interested in guest blogging on here twice a month or so.  More on this later :) And tomorrow is the most important girl in my life's 3rd Birthday! I can't believe how fast my baby is growing up.

But, enough of me, I wanted to share some images of the beautiful Barkhuizen kids. I did this photo session a while back in Birkenhead Domain.  I'll be doing a Spring mini session there in October, so be sure to check back in for further details at the end of September!

I have been photographing these kids fore the past 4 years, and it has been so special seeing them grow up!  They have always been amazing models, and I consider their stunning mom to be one of my closest friends.  Sadly (For me at least), they moved to Australia earlier this month.  This is the last photo session I did for them in NZ.  I'm hoping to go visit them in the near future and getting some shots of Little Trav Surfing the waves off the Australian  coast.

Have a beautiful week everyone, and thank you all for ready my blog!
